Base Titanium Limited, the Kenyan subsidiary of Base Resources Limited (ASX & AIM: BSE), is developing the world-class Kwale Mineral Sands Project in Kenya, East Africa. Their project in Kwale is an advanced and highly competitive project in a sector with a significant forecast supply shortfall widely expected to emerge in the medium term.
Part of their policy is giving back to the community in the area they are working in. They are now sponsoring students through Friends for Life who originate from the Kwale district.

Some years ago it was discovered that there are several kinds of valuable minerals in Kwale. Base Titanium will be in this area for 13 years in order to extract the minerals in a responsible way. Cooperation with the local communities is therefore a highly important factor.

Now and in the future there is a need for educated employees at Base Titanium and the organisation wants to make sure that a large number of their employees originate from Kwale. A partnership with Friends for Life was initiated to contribute to this goal in the future. The students sponsored by Base Titanium all originate from Kwale and take courses which match with the future needs within Base Titanium (for example Mining Engineering). During their studies students might do a specific internship within Base Titanium in order to get to know each other. Finally the students might find a job at Base Titanium after graduation.

In the meantime 5 students have already been sponsored by Base Titanium and another group of 10 students has been introduced as a next group. The 5 students were already lucky to have received a guided tour at the Base Titanium mine site and we are in discussions about possible mentorship for the students. In this way there will be additional benefits to this partnership.
